A visit to Phnom Penh is incomplete without exploring the stunning Royal Palace. Serving as the official residence of the King of Cambodia, its glittering golden roofs and manicured gardens offer a breathtaking glimpse into Khmer royalty. But be warned: the guards here are strict!
What to See Inside
The Throne Hall
The centerpiece of the complex. This is where coronations and meetings with foreign diplomats take place. Look for the 59-meter tower inspired by the Bayon temple at Angkor.
The Silver Pagoda
Famous for its floor made of 5,000+ silver tiles. It houses the "Emerald Buddha" and a life-sized gold Buddha dripping in diamonds.
The Napoleon Pavilion
A strange sight! This black iron building was a gift from French Emperor Napoleon III. It looks like a European dollhouse sitting next to ancient Khmer temples.
👑 Is the King Home?
Look at the flag pole near the riverfront entrance. If the Blue Royal Standard flag is flying, it means His Majesty the King is currently in residence!
Combine Your Trip
The Royal Palace is right next to the National Museum. We recommend doing the Museum in the morning (coolest time) and the Palace at 3:00 PM (best light for photos).
