Suon Sar Kheng: The City's Living Room
Where Battambang Comes to Life After 5 PM
If you want to see the real Battambang, cross the Sangker River to the east bank. Here, in the Garden of Samdech Sar Kheng, the city transforms every evening from a sleepy town into a vibrant hub of fitness, food, and family life.
The Evening Ritual
As the sun begins to set and the heat fades, hundreds of locals flood into this park. It is the city's "Public Living Room," where everyone from toddlers to grandparents comes to socialize.
Public Aerobics
This is serious business! Massive speakers pump out techno remixes while dozens of people follow the instructor's moves. Tourists are always welcome to jump in and join the line!
River Running
The wide, paved pathways along the riverbank are perfect for an evening jog. You'll get a nice breeze off the water and a great view of the colonial houses on the other side.
Street Snacks
Lining the edge of the park are carts selling everything from Meatballs to Spicy Mango Salad. It's the perfect post-workout reward.
💡 Must-Try: Fresh Sugarcane Juice
After a walk in the humid evening air, look for a cart pressing Tuek Ampau (Sugarcane Juice). Served over crushed ice with a squeeze of kumquat or lime, it is the most refreshing drink in Cambodia and costs only 2,000 Riel ($0.50)!
