Day 1: Culture, Crafts & Colonial Charm
1. Ek Phnom Temple & Countryside Tour
Start your day with a trip to Prasat Ek Phnom, an 11th-century sandstone temple built during the reign of King Suryavarman I. Afterwards, dive into the local countryside to see how Cambodians live and work. Visit a Prohok (fermented fish) market, see how bamboo sticky rice (Kralan) is made, and stop by historic pagodas like Wat Samroung Khnong.
Enjoy a delicious Khmer lunch at a local restaurant back in town or in the countryside.
2. Historic Town & Ancient Houses
Explore the central town area, walking along streets #1, #2, and #3 to admire the beautiful colonial architecture. See the Governor's Residence and stroll along the Sangker River. Then, head to Wat Kor Village, famous for its charming ancient wooden houses, some of which are over a century old.
Day 2: History, Heights & Human Spirit
1. Phnom Sampeau & Kamping Puoy
Visit Phnom Sampeau (Sampov Mountain), a site of natural beauty with a tragic history, known for its killing caves from the Khmer Rouge era. Afterwards, see Kamping Puoy Lake, a massive reservoir that was also a Khmer Rouge work site.
Have lunch at a lakeside restaurant or near your next destination.
2. Bamboo Train & Banan Temple
Experience the famous Bamboo Train (Norry), a creative moving platform on the railway tracks that has become a must-do attraction. Afterwards, climb the 358 steps to the top of Phnom Banan, an 11th-century temple that offers incredible views of the surrounding countryside.
3. Phare Ponleu Selpak Circus
After dinner in town, end your trip with an unforgettable evening at the Phare Ponleu Selpak circus. This internationally acclaimed social enterprise provides education and arts training to Cambodian youth. The show is a vibrant, energetic, and inspiring display of acrobatics, music, and storytelling.
