1. The Killing Caves (L'Ang Pnon)
A Place of Remembrance
Halfway up the mountain lie the "Killing Caves," used as execution sites by the Khmer Rouge. Victims were pushed through a skylight in the cavern roof, falling to the darkness below. Today, a glass memorial filled with bones and a reclining Buddha mark the spot. It is a quiet, necessary stop to understand the resilience of the Cambodian people.
2. The Summit (Monkey Temple)
At the very top, you will find a colorful pagoda and stunning views of the countryside.
⚠️ Warning: The monkeys here are known "gangsters." Keep your water bottles and sunglasses hidden inside your bag!
3. The Bat Exodus
At 5:30 PM, head back down to the base. Sit at one of the roadside stalls, order a coconut, and look up. Millions of Asian Wrinkle-lipped Bats stream out to hunt. The ribbon of bats stretches across the sky like a living tornado.
How to Get Up the Mountain
Don't Walk! The road up is incredibly steep and hot. At the entrance gate, there is an organized group of motorbike drivers. For about $4 USD (return), they will drive you up to the caves, wait for you, drive you to the summit, and bring you back down in time for the bats. It is worth every penny.
The Easy Way to Visit
