Attraction Information

Description

Preah Ang Thom is an 8-meter (26-foot) tall statue of the reclining Buddha gaining enlightenment, located at the top of Phnom Kulen and commonly recognized to as the Reclining Buddha. The statue is carved into a huge natural sandstone rock, on which a modern stairway and a shelter over the Buddha have been built. It is a highly precious and special spot for all Cambodians, and there are usually people visiting the site, which may get pretty crowded at times.

How to get there?

Any on-road vehicle, although for travel up high, I recommend motorcycles, light vehicles, or anything similar.

Remember that you’re only permitted to go up before 12 p.m. and only come down after that, for safety reasons .due to the narrow trail.

Is ticket required?

Yes, $20 (Phnom Kulen Natation Park ticket package)

What to do and see?

There are plenty of souvenir sellers on the streets surrounding the pagoda, even before the stairway is a large naga rail and an entrance gate faced by elephants (all contemporary). When you get at the pagoda’s entrance, take off your shoes, say your blessings, and then go up the stairs to the big Buddha. There are various modern sculptures scattered across the site, as well as a Buddha’s foot impression or Buddhapada (near where you leave your shoes), and it’s a wonderful location to rest and ponder, or not think, but likely crowded.

The main activities should be taking photos and religious activities.
